The Beauty of Turquoise & Sunflowers

I don’t know about you, but I needed a little Friday pick me up and when I landed on this wedding I was hooked. It’s simply Friday bliss! There is nothing better than turquoise and sunflowers to get us into the weekend and Casey Durgin Photography captures it all so beautifully! Meghan and Nate’s wedding, at the Flag Hill Winery in New Hampshire, just exudes happiness. It’s the simple DIY details, the vibrant colors, and those sunflowers! The reception; crisp, white and tented, served as a wonderful outdoor setting, but the ceremony between two beautifully old oak trees won me over… and hopefully you too!

Happy Friday!

The Wedding Palette – Elegant Yellow and Grey

When I think of yellow and grey I think Anthropologie, Brooklyn, chevron, hipster and vintage… so where does the wedding palette come in? Well, not sure why exactly, but I definitely am not thinking of classic elegance when the yellow and grey wedding palette pops into my mind… it seems that most of the yellow and grey weddings I see have a beautiful vintage vibe which is why today, I’m trying to think exactly the opposite of everything that “typically” comes to mind. And so we’re going for an elegant yellow and grey wedding palette!

I actually love this combination, but what I don’t love is seeing things like too much chevron (why is it that this pattern is ALWAYS either yellow or grey)? Before I go on… I know, I did make a slight exception with my first photo because this bridesmaids dress and bouquet is fabulous! Anyway, I also don’t like seeing things like yellow dresses and grey stockings (really… this is a wedding), and shoes that somehow combine these colors (very rarely does this work). I also randomly came across a yellow and grey garter… this is a big no no for me… ugh I’ll pass!

So what makes for a classy and elegant yellow and grey wedding palette?

The lighter the yellows the better here. Aside from the awesome bridesmaids dress that I already mentioned and couldn’t resist, I think the less of a mustard yellow the better in terms of making this an elegant palette choice. On the fashion front I’ve kept my other choices very light.. the preppy groomsmen in grey with a beautiful yellow accent boutonniere (second photo), the incredible yellow and white bridesmaids dress (third photo), handmade groomsmen ties from Apple & Ivy’s Etsy shop (love the mix of a bold pattern but light color shades – forth photo), or for the brave grooms, hide some yellow suspenders under that grey suit (fifth photo)! More suspender options in the last photo if you can’t get enough!

Moving onto the paper products… I love the table setting in our sixth photo… the place card is dainty and the “thank you” note is perfectly classic. Picking the right invitation design is key to keeping this palette elegant, so I love the invites in our seventh photo!

And from the paper to the decor, the bouquet (eighth photo) defines my ideas for this palette, incorporating the yellows and greys but keeping it very traditional with roses and other white colored flowers mixed in. Other decor ideas I love… the lovely table setting (eleventh photo), and wrapped boxes for your welcome table or as a centerpiece idea (twelfth photo). Finally, I couldn’t leave out the food… choose a traditional cake as dessert to balance the non-traditional yellow (thirteenth photo), and no wedding is complete without the macaroon (tenth photo)… yellow please, who wants to eat a grey macaroon anyway?

The Wedding Palette – Yellow, Yellow, Yellow!

Well there’s nothing better for a bright end of the week than some color palette inspiration for a particularly bright color…(yellow)! Happy Friday! So what do you think about yellow on the wedding front? I kind of think the color yellow is a little bit controversial when it comes to the wedding palette. It certainly isn’t the typical pick, but it sure is fun! And I personally think I’ve sold myself on it with these fabulous photos and lots of yellow color palette inspiration

So while yellow may not be so perfect for any season (I would suggest avoiding winter), for the rest of the year, depending on your choices, it could pass. But I think it’s perfect for summer! A bright palette for a summer wedding! Because yellow is so loud, I like the idea of using it in more unique ways than your traditional wedding colors. What am I talking about you may ask? Well, you can use it for the normal things like the bouquets, heels, cake and bridesmaids dresses (below) but why not use it for other decor and accessories like the invitations before the wedding, the programs on the big day, a lovely background for a few wedding pictures, a ceremony in a little yellow church, or for your signature drink (also below). As usual this is all about picking the right way to incorporate your color palette whether it’s a loud or soft color… and with the right yellow choices, this one can definitely work too!

Destination Seville, Spain

Having lived in Seville for a few months it’s hard for me to stay unbiased toward how amazing of a destination wedding location this little city in the south of Spain would be. First off, if you’ve never visited, it’s well overdue that you make plans. Secondly, if you are planning a destination wedding, like the European atmosphere, warm weather and palm trees, and a small eclectic city vibe, than Seville is your city!

Really though, Seville is such a great city and a perfectly fun and different place to host a wedding. For me, I couldn’t resist going with the Hotel Alfonso XIII for the reception. This hotel is in the heart of the city, has the classic Spanish architecture and atmosphere, and is beautiful inside and out (photos below). Once you’ve picked the reception location, it’s time for the details. For a wedding in the heart of Spain, unless you absolutely hate yellows and blues, these MUST be incorporated into your palette. Think mosaic tile, vibrant colors and you’re most likely thinking about Spain, so there isn’t anything more fitting than a color palette that tells a story about your wedding location. I love the idea of incorporating golds into the palette too like in the wedding cake below. This color combination for the bridesmaids dresses, bouquets and even little things like the brides heels tie in the themes of the city and country with your own special day!

The Wedding Palette – Colors & Patterns of Summer

Summer is in the air and what better to inspire our summer brides than with some lovely colors, designs, and patterns of the season! Whether your wedding is just around the corner or you are a year away, perfecting the little details for the season your wedding is in is key! Picking pops of color or exciting designs can be done at the very beginning of the planning process and made to be focal points of your day OR at the very end to add the little details that sometimes can stand out the most!

But regardless of your timing, picking the rights colors and patterns especially if you are getting married in such a vibrant season (summer) is key! So today we’re using bold designs and colors to emphasize the importance of these little details! I can’t get over how amazing the bright patterns used on a table runner for the signature drinks or a table cloth (both below) are for a wedding. Patterns are so underused at weddings that it’s refreshing to see such bold colors and designs used at the same time! Blend patterns like these with the colors in them… reds, yellows and oranges to freshen up your wedding and bring even the small details like your drink bar to life!
