2013 Spring Wedding Trends

Hellooo spring? Where are you? Obviously nowhere near Manhattan that’s for sure… we still have icicles, winter coats, and the occasional flurry. But that’s not stopping any of the exciting and fabulous spring wedding ideas we have coming your way! And it feels like the best way to start is a round up of a few of the spring trends. I gathered a little of this and a little of that from what we’re seeing in spring weddings, fashion, and of course the blogging world to come up with my own list of 8 top trends. But my list is a little different because I didn’t want a bunch of random thoughts; instead I wanted a cohesive list of spring trends and how you can incorporate them into one wedding (yes, all of the trends in one!)

1. {Mint} Well mint and other pastels, but for me, mint tops the list. So a palette of mint it is
2. {Cactus} What? Yep, that’s right the fabulous cactus. These can be used as centerpieces, favors, or pretty decor, but trust me they work (second and ninth photos)
3. {Lace – used discreetly} Let’s be honest lace is a bit overused but one way to make it more trendy is to use it in a unique way. Case and point; these adorable wedding invites (third photo)
4. {Adorable invites} Speaking of invites, one big trend this year is small business, homemade items so why not get on the bandwagon; there are plenty of options out there that are affordable, creative and very cute (third and forth photos)
5. {Flats} These are popular on the runway so I’m thinking we’ll be seeing more fun options for wedding shoes led by the popular flat (love these loafers, fifth photo – they may be for the groom but they are technically still “flats”, and the J Crew ballet slippers, thirteenth photo)
6. {Tea Cups} These are definitely on the way back along with everyone’s love of vintage; I’m guessing dainty tea cups are going to be a big and wonderful part of weddings this year (sixth photo)
7. {Outdoor Lounge} One of my personal favorites and a big trend in 2013 so far, pretty obvious why these are so popular- because they are so cool! (seventh photo)
8. {Family Style Tables} The round table is out, family style long and very fun tables are in (eighth photo)

Happy Spring!

Trend Alert: The Winter Cover-Up

Ahh, the winter shrug is back. I got through almost a year with only a few winter “cover-up” posts (here and here), but I couldn’t resist just one more for the winter season, because there are always more winter furs (and in today’s case a pretty knitted number – sixth photo) to choose from!

While I tend to prefer furs over other jackets, caplets, shawls etc. I don’t mind the fur color and style choices. But (and there is always a but), that doesn’t mean any shrug works for any bride..The key is to pick the right color for your skin (let’s face it, without spray tan we’re all a bit pale come the winter solstice), choosing a color that will look good with your groom, maids and palette choices, and finally, just pick a style for no other reason than you simply adore it.

Today I wanted an assortment of eye candy and inspiration and while you may not love all of these, I promise there is a little something for everyone… So with a long sleeve look (second, forth, and eighth photos) or the traditional capelet (tenth photo), knit and very vintage (sixth photo), or a bit more trendy (fifth photo) you can do a lot with the shrug for any winter affair!

Pure Winter Wedding {Rustic} Bliss

Doing some winter dreaming today thanks to this gorgeous winter wedding {shoot} by Wren Photography. In her own words…

In a small town located in the heart of Michigan’s Upper Peninsula a group of professional wedding vendors joined together to create a gorgeous outdoor winter styled wedding to showcase how truly wonderful winter weddings can be! The private residence not only provided a stunning forest backdrop, but also an icy view of Lake Michigan. Knots & Kisses created a rustic, simple setting that showcased the true beauty of nature during the winter months. Their tablescapes adorned with moss, deer antlers, and candles added the perfect touch to the already gorgeous setting. The bride stepped out in an elegant off the shoulder gown with diamond snowflake jewelry from Wood Jewelers. Her romantic styled hair paired with the simplicity of her makeup made her stand out from the sparkling snow. Her Groom looking handsome, was dressed perfectly for a winter wedding with a suit from A Bride’s Choice. The couple enjoyed a day filled with laughter, hot cocoa, chai vanilla cupcakes, and so much more. The romantic bouquet, centerpieces, and boutonniere were artistically created by Forsberg Floral.

Happy Friday lovelies!!

The Wintry Plaids

Winter here on OTW seems to be winding down, but that only means we’ve got tons planned for Spring… just around the corner from here. So as my wintry thoughts, wanderings, and inspiration winds down… a little something special for a Monday. The ultimate winter pattern! And it’s pretty in plaid.
