A Vineyard Inspired Affair

I LOVE vineyards and wine tasting and what could be better than your normal trip to your favorite vineyard…well, a vineyard wedding of course! The beauty of the vineyard wedding is that this isn’t just isolated to one or two places, there seem to be vineyards popping up all over the country and world these days making a vineyard wedding a very good possibility in your own backyard (or within driving distance) or as a destination wedding.

Between California and Long Island wineries in the United States as well as many well known and well established grape growing locations all over the world (think Italy, France, Australia, South Africa) whatever type of wedding you are looking for the world will have it! So once you’ve picked the location it’s time to busy yourself with all the details like the vineyard of choice, whether you’ll be having an outdoor or indoor reception (I hope outdoor!) From there it’s moving on to the table ideas, although here you can’t really go wrong if you’ve plopped yourself in the middle of a gorgeous vineyard. As always, never forget the little details like the best ways to incorporate the cork (please, I know it may be cliche but for a vineyard wedding you must!)  I love these place cards using cork and this fun guest sign-in “book” (photos below). And finally, among picking the wines you will all be drinking and the best ways to serve them (I love the “drink bar” below where wine bottles rest in the center of a picnic table), you can’t forget the favors!  And of course, I would suggest a bottle of wine for this one…

Christmas Wedding Favors

Favors are so under appreciated when it comes to wedding planning but much loved by the wedding guests who drive far distances, take planes, and are most importantly there for you! So give back a little (especially at Christmas) with some fabulous do-it-yourself favor ideas!

Since we’ve really neglected the red and green themes for the first half of Christmas week (in June), today the favor picks are all about the classic colors, and better yet, most are for the DIY bride! My favorites are the elegant red ornaments that are budget friendly to buy and easy to decorate yourself with a fancy gold pen (first photo below). All you need to do is use your best writing skills to spell out the bride and groom, wedding date, and anything else you want; and you are all done! Another favorite are the DIY carmels wrapped in red paper!  Shown in the fifth photo from the top, these couldn’t get easier. All you’ll need is your carmels, red paper, and decorative stickers (if you want)… roll each piece of paper into a pointed end, throw in your carmels, and seal with a sticker for color and decoration! And my final pick for the day, I can’t resist the hot cocoa mix in our last picture. This DIY favor is perfect for a winter wedding! All you’ll need are triangular plastic baggies, hot chocolate mix, and mini-marshmallows! Lay your marshmallows on top of the hot chocolate mix in your baggie, tie it up with a pretty Christmas ribbon and you’re done!

There are so many fun and cheap ways to personalize your wedding that if you think just a little bit outside of the box, I assure you that you’ll be beyond pleased with the finished product!

The Wedding Palette – Silver Wedding Bells

Silver bells are ringing this week on One to Wed and we’re SO excited for our full week of winter wedding ideas right in the middle of the summer! And what more of a fitting kick off then on June 25th, exactly 6 months to go until Christmas and the winter wedding season! So brides-to-be, instead of thinking about mojito’s on the beach, it’s time for some crafty ornament ideas for your wedding favors, signature winter cocktails, and decorative (wintery) centerpieces.

First on our summer Christmas week is all things silver! For those of you who may be planning a December wedding but don’t want to go overboard with red and green or those planning a January of February wedding, silver is the perfect color for the season! It feels wintery but still warm and inviting and it can be paired with practically any other color to make the perfect palette. The key is just finding the most fun silver accessories to spice up your wedding day! I am obsessed with the simple but perfectly elegant ornament centerpieces below. This is such an easy do-it-yourself project that any DIY bride could put this together! All you need… silver trays, a few different shades of silver/grey/glittery ornaments and some oversized pine cones and you have this perfect winter centerpiece (final product below)! Other DIY ideas for the winter bride… wedding favors wrapped in little silver gift boxes topped with a bow and silver decoration, menu cards that are bedazzled with a mini silver brooch (all you need to do is add this little jewel to your existing menu cards for a very simple DIY enhancement!) I also LOVE the idea of keeping with the centerpiece theme and slipping place cards on little silver ornaments… (all picture ideas are below)!

For the non-DIY projects to create your silver wedding palette… back to the basics with a fabulous choice of glittery heels (as usual these Christian Louboutin’s below are my favorite), picking a silver infused bouquet, adding some sparkle with silver cupcakes (two different ideas below) and finally making sure your signature cocktail comes out with a silver glow!

By the time you’ve combined your DIY projects with your favorite silver accessories you’ll be well on your way to a non-traditional Christmas wedding but still keeping with the spirit of the season! Merry Christmas and happy holidays (only 6 months to go…)!!

The Industrialist

What exactly is an industrial wedding? Well, the industrial revolution may be long gone but industrialism is still around; that is, in places you don’t exactly look when planning a wedding… like manufacturing, coal and steel…

Well lucky for the creative brides out there, an industrial vibe for your wedding can make it a very special and fun day even without all the dainty things we normally think of when we think weddings. Accentuating colors like greys, blacks and browns gives the industrial feel and picking the right “shaped” items (like these pleated dresses… I am obsessed with the one below from BHLDN) can help set the mood… I am practically dying over the reception decor below.. the hanging lantern lights and chandeliers dangling from a warehouse ceiling couldn’t be more perfect, and touches like grey chairs, and a sleek grey program add to the overall feel. Since everything can’t be grey, black bridesmaids dresses (like this one from Badgley Mischka) add a sharper color contrast and one of my favorite picks for this theme is the favors!  I always get excited over amazing favor ideas and these are up there with my favorites… cookie mix in a jar! The colors are perfect for this type of mood but the actual favor is so fun for guests to enjoy and remember your unique wedding!!

Au Naturel

Au naturel? Yes, for the wedding at least. With Earth Day right around the corner (it is this Sunday..) I figured it was time to go back to our roots in terms of wedding decor so today it’s all about the all natural – earth tones, outdoor weddings, and even some bark place cards!

Seriously though, greenery is not always a part of our wedding plans (except probably for the pictures) but the outdoors can serve as the perfect backdrop for a ceremony and reception. What is so perfect about the outdoors is that your setting can be dressed up or down accordingly. I love the idea of creating an elegant and romantic “earthy” wedding but styling certain pieces like your table setting as though you were in a glamorous country club (check out the place setting below!) You can also pick long bridesmaid dresses to make the atmosphere more formal (I’m keeping with my brown and green palette today with a beautiful dark brown chiffon dress). Remember to blend your touches of elegance with the outdoors (you are after all planning an outdoor wedding!). Fun ways to keep the atmosphere earthy are with these perfect bark place cards and baby plant favors (both below)! And don’t forget the bridal accessories! Instead of a classic veil or sparkling tiara, why not chose a natural wreath or small flower in your hair. Combine these with some fancier decor and before you know it au naturel will be simply gorgeous.. and just in time for Earth Day!
