Off the Beaten Path: Retro Elegance

I got to thinking over the weekend about the good old days… the 50s and 60s complete with the stereotypical ice cream parlor and vinyl chairs. So instead of channeling all those awful retro stereotypes, I’m focusing on retro elegance today – wedding style. This is not the theme to go overboard with (unless you’re looking to really take your guests back in time – this, I wouldn’t recommend). So tread lightly with your retro details; less is definitely more. My inspiration is about subtle fashion and decor choices – 50s inspired hair {which can make a fab wedding up do}, tea length dresses, fun throwback invitations, awesome retro cars and red lips. You can find ways to channel your inner mid-century without making it too vintage-retro and totally uncool!

A Shot Among the Tulips {In Turkey}

When this stunning picture just about fell into my lap {well more like a friend sent it over} I knew I had to share it on OTW. Snapped by a friend of a friend in Gulhane Park in Istanbul, Turkey when they stumbled across a newlywed shoot, there is something so beautifully delicate about the bride, and the picture – and it’s not just those vibrant colors or pale pink wedding dress. As my friend ended her email to me.. how beautiful does she look surrounded by the tulips??

Happy Thursday!

Off the Beaten Path: A Ballet {Inspired} Wedding

Channeling a little Swan Lake today {I’ll pass on the Black Swan, thanks} and feeling very inspired by pale pink, ballet flats and tulle! While you may not want your entire wedding to be ballet themed, our inspiration is only that… to inspire thinking outside of the wedding box, and the result? Well I think it’s fabulous! Presenting our thoughts in pictures on a ballet inspired affair…

The Loveliest Spring Bridesmaid Dresses

Spring may feel far away (at least for me thanks to these way too chilly temps) but we’re in full on Spring mode here at OTW! And today, we’re all about the fashion. The bridesmaids dress market may seem daunting especially for a Spring wedding because there is, well, just an overwhelming amount of options. Too many colors, style, lengths, designers, prices ranges etc leads to bridal confusion! But why make it more complicated than it is? Whether it’s Spring or any season, you should be choosing dresses that fit your big day, not that fit what the typical bridesmaids dress is. And that’s what makes these springtime picks so refreshing.

When I think of Spring weddings, for me it’s all about flowers, light and airy colors, and light {literally speaking} fabrics. So the dresses don’t have to be what ticks all of the traditional boxes but instead what fits your wedding and the season… and that’s what makes these choices special. I’d like to consider all of these just on the edge of non-traditional but a wonderful edge that every bride should go to to find that.perfect.bridesmaids.dress!!

Trend Alert: Bridesmaids Patterns

What’s all the fuss about patterns anyway? Every season there’s always a new trend on the runway, but one that you hear {actually} a lot about is the pattern. Not always the same one, but guaranteed, at least once every season there is a pattern that is the next big thing. But, it’s not that way in the wedding world. How often do you see a to-die-for patterned bridesmaids dress? Well, you just don’t. That is… until you look beyond the norm. There are plenty of patterns out there, and no one is stopping you from finding that perfect one at the vintage store down the street, the department store you grew up with, or that trendy up and coming designer. And that’s the beauty of the patterned bridesmaids dress. It’s not because everyone else is doing it. It’s because you’re making your own little interpretation of the latest runway fad and bringing it straight to the aisle!
