It’s officially our first Wednesday dress pick! In the spirit of bridal inspiration, I wanted to make sure to share A LOT of my favorite part of every wedding – the dress!! That means we are devoting every Wednesday to a dress pick of the week!
A wedding dress is how every bride can express themselves on their wedding day; the style, fabric, silhouette and overall look can vary dramatically for every bride-to-be. The “dress” has become an industry itself in the fashion world with so many high fashion to vintage to more budget friendly lines, designers, and dresses to choose from.
I wanted to pay tribute to the dress and it only feels right to give it a full day every week! Hopefully these incredible picks will inspire a little creativity in every bride out there…
So the first featured dress? Well of course it’s long sleeved since we are still in February but it’s beginning to look a bit more “springy”… winter is almost over, but for now one more taste before welcoming March! I LOVE Carolina Herrera and this dress from her Spring 2012 collection is the perfect pick for a wedding this time of the year!!
In honor of the Oscars this weekend, what could be more fitting than a bridal throwback to the Old Hollywood wedding and all that comes with it: think glamour, charm, and Clark Gable. When I think of the Old Hollywood wedding I think red lipstick, lace, feathers, lovely headpieces, and the roaring 20s. Even today you can have a piece of old Hollywood in your wedding by just incorporating a few statement pieces like any of these – from a mid-century(esque) necklace, to a vintage inspired wedding bouquet, a classic veil, or finishing it all off with an exquisite dress.
Winter may be nearly over, but there is still plenty of time for a fabulous fur shrug! What better an accessory than a timeless, cozy, elegant piece (okay, you know you can always do faux fur if you’re an animal lover!!) If you’re thinking that fur is old fashioned or out of style, get that idea out of your head! A fur accessory will not only keep you warm on the coldest of wedding days; it looks absolutely incredible too!
I am in love with these shrugs! Each is used uniquely as a fashion piece (or winter coat). White, grey, brown, black, with or without sleeves, all of these brides have put a spin on the old fashioned fur and how amazing do they look…
What could possibly be a better first post than truly starting at the beginning (or at least the beginning of modern day weddings)… The history of the white wedding dress (and of course how you can capture the classic styles that you love from the past today)! It is widely known that Queen Victoria made the modern white dress popular after she wore white on her wedding day in 1840 but it’s a little known fact that the tradition really began with Anne of Brittany on her wedding day in 1499 to Louis XII of France. I wonder then, what happened to the fledgling tradition in the 350 years between Anne of Brittany and Queen Victoria? Well luckily regardless of the pink, grey, blue and black dresses that were worn by brides in those centuries in between, white finally began to evolve throughout the 19th century to what it is today.
So what are the styles that inspire you since Queen Victoria’s trend setting dress? The boyish, unshaped bodices of the roaring 20s? High waistlines of the 60s (think Grace Kelly)? The famous puff sleeves of Princess Diana? The embroidered, embellished, bedazzled dresses of today? Check out these incredible picks from the best of classic to modern styles that remind us of the best eras from the past and the styles to expect more of in the future… Enjoy!
